Developing the Compassionate Heart

Tong Len Meditation is part of the Mind Transformation tradition (Lo Jong) of Tibetan Buddhism, which originated with the Buddha Himself. This tradition was kept secret for a very long time, and was not taught openly until about 800 years ago, for fear it might be misunderstood, which would diminish its transforming power. Practicing the Tong Len meditation develops in the practitioner a loving and compassionate attitude towards all beings, and acts as an antidote in situations of strife and conflict. This meditation is very helpful for the sick, their families and friends, and has special importance at the time of death. It brings much happiness to our hearts and much love to our life, transforming the practitioners and their surroundings. It is also a wonderful way to collect merit, on our path to enlightenment.
